Action for Hope grant to the Southampton District

The Southampton District has been awarded a grant to take steps towards net carbon zero. The District qualified for this in large measure due to the churches who have registered for and received awards from the Eco Church programme of A Rocha UK.

The priority for the funding will be to offer circuits free independent energy audits for their churches and manses. This will provide a carbon plan for all churches and circuits to incorporate into their mission plans. By being independent such plans should be acceptable evidence for grant-awarding bodies. There are about 180 such properties in the District. It is aimed to complete all these surveys in two years.

The District’s Project Management Group will first select and appoint the energy auditors and then circuits will be invited to opt-in to the scheme, probably in the New Year.
